Camping Safari
This 4-day camping safari is the ideal starting point for travellers who want to experience the best of northern Tanzania on a budget. You will explore two of the country's most iconic parks: Tarangire National Park, famous for its massive elephant herds and ancient baobab trees, and the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest unflooded caldera and home to an extraordinary concentration of wildlife.
Camp under the African stars at Simba Campsite on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and at public campsites near Tarangire. All camping equipment, meals, park fees, and a private 4x4 Land Cruiser with pop-up roof are included.
Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive to Tarangire National Park (approximately 2.5 hours). Enter the park for a full day of game driving. Tarangire is known for its large elephant herds, tree-climbing lions, and the striking landscape of baobab trees and the Tarangire River. Afternoon game drive along the river where animals gather. Camp overnight at Mto wa Mbu public campsite.
Morning game drive in Tarangire to catch the early wildlife activity. After lunch, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area via Karatu. Arrive at Simba Campsite on the rim of the crater in the late afternoon. The views from the rim at sunset are spectacular. Dinner and overnight at Simba Campsite on the crater rim.
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater early in the morning for a full day of game driving on the crater floor. The crater is home to approximately 25,000 large animals including lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, and the endangered black rhino. The crater floor also has flamingo-dotted soda lakes and lush grasslands. Packed lunch on the crater floor. Return to Simba Campsite for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, depart Ngorongoro and drive back to Arusha (approximately 3.5 hours). Optional stop at a Maasai village or local market along the way. Arrive in Arusha by early afternoon. Drop-off at your hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
